An ode to fizzy water
Is there anything better than that first sip of sparkling water on a warm summer’s day?
That big first swig that almost immediately gets caught in your throat, causing you to either invent a new type of swallow – the type that skilfully somehow alleviates the pressure that’s building internally – or, depending on the company, leddeerrriip.
The condensation that forms on the sides of the glass before droplets chase each other to the base, occasionally crossing the void to your wrist before trickling down your arm.
The glassware and accessories – oh the opportunities!
A tall, thin highball glass – with ridges, or colourful flecks – with ice that clinks and dinks with every sip. A chunky little tumbler – embossed or made from pastel toned glass – a slice of home-grown cucumber infusing more with every minute.
The water itself – can a drink get any better?
Whether it’s collected at the source of a stream and self-carbonated, or bought from a convenience store at a busy and crowded station, it is – quite simply – the ultimate refreshment.
And when its day is done, it’s flat and the bubbles are small and pathetic, clinging to the sides with no real conviction…
It’s time to open another bottle. Twist, crack, lift… and we’re off!
Couldn’t agree more 🫧💙
